Home Visits

On our second day in Grenada, my group traveled to St. Mark's Parish to visit people's homes. St. Mark's is one of the poorer parishes on the island and is around 50 minutes from the capital. The area we visited was a very supportive rural community that looked out for one another. As I traveled from home to home people would tell me to visit their neighbors and check on certain people that lived in the area.

Pictured above is one of the women who lived in the village gave us cocoa beans and mangoes as a thank you for visiting her community. She cut the cocoa bean open and had us taste the seeds and she explained about how chocolate was made in Grenada. Pictured below is a pet monkey one of our patients had.

At each home visit, all of the adults were given the opportunity to have their blood pressure and blood glucose checked and breast exams were given to the women of the household. If any of the tests showed concerning results Doctor Modeste was able to write referrals for them to go to a health clinic.
