Health Fairs

While we were in Grenada we had the opportunity to participate in two Health Fairs, one in St. George's Marketplace and one at an elementary school in Grenville. Each Health Fair was set up into stations with one or two nursing students at each table. Both Health Fairs had stations about blood pressure, blood glucose, BMI, eye exams, breast exams, and education. The Health Fair in Grenville had an additional craft station where the kids that came with their parents could decorate paper plates while their parents were at the fair and there was also a dental station that gave all the visitors bags with dental supplies and informed people on how to correctly brush their teeth.

Before visiting Grenada I didn't understand how important these Health Fairs were to Grenada. The citizens of Grenada use these free Health Fairs once a year to check their health instead of visiting the clinic. We saw over 650 people over the course of the two Health Fairs and were constantly consulting with patients. Overall, it was a really great experience to utilize fundamental nursing skills and practice communicating with patients about their health.
